Two things:
1. Ferran Adrià, the father of molecular gastronomy, is taking a 2-year sabbatical to rest after a gruesome run at El Bulli, which will open again in 2013. This means the title of best restaurant in the world is now open.
2. Madrid is pushing an out-right ban of smoking in public areas to be enforced by June of 2010. It's as if they knew I was coming and got to work as fast as they could. Unfortunately, they'll just miss me. But I'll be eager to see how the controversy over such a large part of Spain's culture develops.
